Eductors

New Field’s eductors are specialized devices designed to improve heat transfer in surface-type heat exchangers and control superheated steam temperatures. With applications across power generation, refineries, and process plants, eductors play a crucial role in maintaining process stability by balancing steam requirements and controlling excess heat. Our eductors are engineered for high performance, reliability, and adaptability to various industrial applications.

Applications
Eductors are widely used in several key processes, including:
  • Heat Exchangers: Enhancing the heat transfer efficiency of surface-type heat exchangers.
  • Superheated Steam Control: Regulating and reducing superheated steam where excess temperatures may harm the product.
  • Boilers: Used between superheater stages or at boiler exits to control superheat temperatures during partial loads.
  • Turbine Bypass: Acting as a bypass for bleeder or back pressure turbines to maintain a balance between process steam and power requirements.
  • Process Plants: In refineries and process plants, eductors help balance or provide makeup steam in reduced pressure systems.
Operation

Eductors work by reducing steam temperature through direct contact between superheated steam and water. The cooling process occurs as the steam evaporates the water, lowering the overall temperature of the steam. The water enters the eductor, is preheated, and then atomized into small jets that mix with the steam, resulting in efficient heat transfer. This method provides maximum desuperheating effectiveness while minimizing wear on piping systems.

Performance

Our eductors are designed for steady load conditions where minimizing pressure loss is crucial. While eductors offer cost-effective solutions with negligible pressure losses, the turndown ratio—depending on installation and other factors. Normal flow variation typically ranges from 75% to 15%. They are ideal for applications requiring consistent performance, especially in power plants for heating systems, heat exchangers, and dump stations.

Key Features
  • Efficient Heat Transfer: Optimizes the performance of heat exchangers by improving heat transfer capabilities.
  • Temperature Control: Reduces and controls superheated steam, protecting sensitive equipment from heat damage.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be mounted horizontally or vertically to suit operational needs.
  • Custom Engineering: Equipment can be manufactured to comply with ASME, ANSI, and other industry codes, with options for special non-destructive testing.
